Welcome to graduate study in the Department of Communication! This handbook provides information about various requirements, policies, and activities that are relevant to graduate students in the Department of Communication. The handbook is intended to inform and guide students pursuing degrees in the department's M.A. and Ph.D. programs.

One of the hallmarks of our graduate program is its flexibility; students work closely with faculty to design programs of study that best fit their individual needs. Such flexibility, however, demands that students take a proactive stance toward their graduate education. One way to do that is to familiarize yourself with the contents of this handbook. Read through it in its entirety, and consult it frequently as you move through your program; most questions you will have about the course of your graduate study are answered here. Remember: this is your degree! Take ownership of it. One way to do that is to be informed about the policies and guidelines that affect your life as a graduate student.

winterThe handbook is revised as changes occur in the policies and patterns it describes or as the material is seen to be inaccurate, incomplete, or uncommunicative. If you have questions that aren't specifically answered in the handbook, feel free to contact me directly. In addition to knowing how our graduate program works, all graduate students are expected to become familiar with the policies and codes of the Graduate College and the University. Bookmark these sources so that you may consult them when necessary.
